Addiction

Secular Definition:  From Wikipedia, the term Addiction is used in many contexts to describe an obsession, compulsion, or excessive psychological dependence, such as: drug addiction (e.g. alcoholism), nicotine addiction, problem gambling, crime, money, work addiction, compulsive overeating, computer addiction, video game addiction, pornography addiction, etc.

Webster’s Dictionary says this:  Compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance (as heroin, nicotine, or alcohol) characterized by tolerance and by well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal; broadly : persistent compulsive use of a substance known by the user to be harmful.

No matter what definition we use, addiction is not a good thing.  No matter what we may be addicted to, even if sometimes viewed as a pleasant or even good thing, the fact is that there is an unnatural, or better said, ungodly control over us by that very item.  Many times we seem to need it for our very existence.  We must break the bondage over our lives, and this is done by breaking the spiritual control over us.

In the Word of God:

“For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father’” (Romans 8:15).

“Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?” (Romans 6:16).

Bondage is slavery or involuntary servitude; serfdom (required to render services to a lord.)  The state of being bound by or subjected to some external power or control.  Personal subjection to the control of a superior.  Bondage is a ruling spirit or also known as the “stronghold.”  It controls and dictates other spirits such as greed, gluttony, obesity, anorexia, bulimia and Addictions.  There is a “Hindering” spirit associated with Bondage that prevents God’s people from calling on Him for help and also holds back God’s calling on our lives.
